Originally named New Lisbon, after the city in Portugal, the village was established by Lewis Kinney and by 1840 had grown to roughly 1,800 residents. Because of its fabulous location on the Sandy and Beaver Canal, Lisbon prospered and by 1846 it served as home to several carriage makers, two woolen factories, two iron foundries, two flour mills, three newspapers, and fourteen retail stores. By 1880 the village had just over two thousand residents, and by 2003 it had grown to just under three thousand residents.

Lisbon is the state’s second-oldest town, and today serves as the county seat of Columbiana County. It has much to offer prospective homebuyers, including excellent recreation opportunities. Lisbon encompasses part of Lake Guilford, which is a popular fishing destination.
